Poet, Visionary, Writer & Human Being
Brenda Xavez is a poet, writer and first-generation queer Chicana. Ms. Xavez grew up in Pico-Union, an immigrant inner-city part of Los Angeles. From an early age, books and school were her refuge from a dangerous neighborhood and home life. In high school, she was awarded a scholarship to attend Windward, a prestigious college preparatory school. She then graduated from Stanford University and Columbia Law School. She is a practicing attorney and co-author of the anthology “Yo También: Stories of Healing and Hope” in English and “Yo También: Historias de Esperanza y Sanación” in Spanish. Through her writing and activism, Ms. Xavez hopes to be a source of light, inspiration and healing, especially for incest and rape survivors.
